1. What is SoulPierce?
SoulPierce is an effort by Catholics who seek to encourage and partake in the Life of God.
2. What does “SoulPierce” mean?
SoulPierce is a term derived from Sacred Scripture. It is alluded to in the second chapter of Luke when the holy man at the temple, Simeon, holds Jesus in his arms, turns to the Blessed Virgin Mary and says,
“Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is spoken against- and a sword will pierce through your own soul also- that thoughts out of many hearts may be revealed.”
The sword that pierces the heart of Mary is the Death of her Son, Jesus Christ. When the Blessed Mother entered into Calvary and saw Jesus hanging from the Cross, the love she had for Him took the form of an unimaginable sorrow that “pierced her soul.” However, as deep as this sorrow was, it also unified Our Mother and Our Lord in a most exceptional way.
This singular union between Mother and Son was not only shared between the two of them. In fact, this Love immediately expands outward. For it was at this moment that the fullness of Mary’s love for God, and God’s love for Mary is revealed. This revelation did not come from God with words of honor or praise, it came with a mission and designation. This is when our Lord gives His Mother over to the “disciple whom He loves,” and tells him she is now his Mother; She is now Our Mother. Love for God, by it’s nature, spirates outward.
The love between God and disciple always expands to the love of neighbor, for this is how it reveals itself and glorifies the Father. Indeed, it is impossible to fulfill the full potential of the love we share with our neighbor if we do not love God first. God is Love Himself, God is life Himself, and He has given Himself to us so that we may partake in His eternal life of Divine Love.
This gift of participation in the life of Divine Love has been given to us via the death (expiation) and resurrection (transformation) of Jesus Christ. SoulPierce is a term for this perfect exchange of Love that took place on Calvary from God to Mary, but it also refers to our own participation in the Life of God. This is Grace. The unmerited gift of God Himself.
This topic will be expanded upon in everything we do here.
